Maybe the Monsters Are Tired
3-page bound comic with cover
A comic about monsters and compassion fatigue. Printed using aquatint, then bound with string. Words written with black ink.
How Was This Made?
The Comic was first drawn in a sketchbook with black ink and pencil. Then Illustrator traced the image and converted it into vectors which were then cut into vinyl. The vinyl served as a hard ground on the copper plate, which already had a layer of aquatint. This allowed the exposed parts to be bitten by the acid, resulting in the plates below. Then they were printed on tan BFK paper, and then sewn together. The covers were made by running the excess ink from the plates through the press with extra pieces of paper. All letters are handwritten. This was an edition of only 5 books.
